Wajah

Berbumbungkan angkasa kelabu
Lantainya bumi retak seribu
Setiap langkah perjalananmu
Beronak berliku
Betapa berat mata memandang
Berat bahu menggalas bebanan
Belum sempat menitis ke pipi
Tangisan kering sendiri
Berkali tersungkur
Pandanganmu kabur
Namun azam meneruskan hidup
Tak pernah luntur
Engkaulah perwira
Di medan derita
Merentasi ranjau kehidupan
Dengan harapan
Luahan rasa derita jiwa
Pada wajah tiada rahsia
Menunggu malang berganti tuah
Usah kau berputus asa
Kaulah wira

Above is the theme song for the reality program “Bersamamu” at TV3. Can’t stop the hot tears from streaming down my cheeks each time I watched this heart-rending show. Who doesn’t when you see a four-year old girl weeping to have some sugar, instead of fish or chicken, in her rice for dinner? Her face gleamed with joy when her sister added some, the way she wanted. Then happily she continued eating her dinner without any complained, feeling contented. That is what they eat everyday, plain rice with sugar and salt. To have fried anchovies to go along with their rice is already a blessing for the family.

The little girl and her five other siblings are the daughters of the poor parents who could not afford to provide proper home, food and education for their children. Their house looks more like a shattered barn to me rather than a place for shelter. Mentioned above is merely one of the families who are not fortunate enough to lead their lives like many of us do.

Having to watch this, I can’t stop myself from thanking the Almighty for all the things that He has bestowed upon me and my family. We may not be rich but I thank Him still as we do not have to face such calamities and hardship like the family highlighted in this program. Hence, as we lead our lives in full comfort and prosperity, we must not fail to remember there are still many people out there who desperately needed our help and support to make their lives better. And as a mother, these are the things I have to constantly remind my children in hoping they will grow to be a considerate person and sensitive towards others who are in need.

Congratulations to TV3 for coming up with this reality show. Thank you for helping us to be more courteous and sensitive Malaysians.
