When Old is Gold

That was the first thing that managed to catch my interest when I first laid my eyes on the new magazine I bought recently. “When Old is Gold – why some young women go for mature men.” According to the article, some younger women find older men fascinating. A lecturer and a psychologist at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, UKM said that one of the more obvious explanations is that they feel “safe” with older men who, more often than not, are financially secure. Most mature men tend to be more understanding, loving and caring. These young ladies want to be nurtured and pampered and they want a man whom they can rely on. They too may have experienced negative experiences in relationship with younger men or men of their age. I guess these women have their points there. It is true that older men tend to be more understanding, loving and caring. Nevertheless, there are some younger men too who are just as loving and caring as the older men. What is there in age? A friend o

If only...

If only I could change the world. Yes!! That would be my dream, my fantasy. What would I do if I were to be given the power to change it? First and foremost, I would love to stop all the adult’s game at once – yes, I’m talking about the war. I want to make sure that no more children are being made into orphans, no more women being made into widows, no more parents losing their sons in the battle field and no family is made homeless. I just can’t bear seeing little innocent faces crying beside their motionless mother who was in a pool of blood – being shot by the invaders who claimed to protect the country. I can’t bear seeing dead bodies scattered everywhere on the sandy, dirty street – as if these once spirited men’s life were of no use, worthless to their own country. Who can bear all these melancholy sights? If only I could meet personally and suggest to whom it may concern and tell him to end all the war which obviously invite more killing rather than solv

The True Sense of Life

As I was flipping through the tabloid one day, I came across an article concerning conjoined twins. My heart was touched to see the poor babies joined together, sharing heart and liver. Each time I read about these kinds of twins, I can’t help but to think of the late 29-year-old Iranian twins, Laleh and Ladan Bijani. It has been more than a year since the death of these two special people but their courage and determination to live their life at their uppermost has left a deep impact on me. Despite the warnings and slim chances to survive, they still decided to go through the operation in order to fulfill their last wish – to live and to die as two separate individuals. As expected they didn’t make it even though the team of specialists worked really hard to make their dream possible. However, the doctors did fulfill the second half of the twins’ wish. It was really saddening though. Doctors and medical associations from all over the world fully put the blame on the shoulders of the

Nothing but life!!

Drama is nothing but about life. It may be fictional, dealing with invented characters. In fact, almost all of the characters in a drama are imaginary – though they seem real. Personally, I see the world closely related to drama. It is some kind of a big stage where all of us are the actors performing the roles that we are assigned to, under the close supervision of the Mighty Producer, our Lord. However I also see drama in chat rooms. Of course, chat rooms are a new form of a movie screen where you can project yourself as u wish, paint beautiful vibrant colours of life merely with words which are directly from your thoughts and spice up with some emotions and there you have your own drama in your mind. I am not saying the “drama” and its characters here are all fictitious, there are based on true stories sometimes, based on true feelings and emotions. I suppose only those who have experienced it are aware of what it is all about. And it is all related to noth

What is belly dancing?

The moment that I had been waiting for finally has arrived. The whole gang will be spending our afternoon at The Actor’s Studio, Bangsar. The trip was fun as we went there together with several cars which was obviously led by me!! Thank God, I have already surveyed the way last week with my husband just as to make sure that I did not lead to the wrong place. We managed to beat the heavy traffic and reached Bangsar Shopping Complex at about 1:30 in the afternoon. Personally, I felt very excited because that was my very first time watching a play at a theatre. We had an ample time linger around the shopping complex and we were considered lucky to get the chance to watch a live belly dance show. I think it was really cool to perform that kind of dance in public. I wish I could try this dance some day!! What is belly dancing? I have heard people saying it is something like stripping. I wonder just where did that linkage to stripping come from? Why do people think this way? I have found o

The meaning of drama

Many years back during college, I was quite active in performing plays on stage and was comfortable with the characters and roles that were given to me. I have had enjoyed myself so much in each play that I even dreamed of becoming a performer instead of a teacher! But what never crossed my mind at that particular time was that I never questioned or stop to think what is actually a play or a drama? It was only last year when my classmates and I were assigned to a project paper where we need to make a lot of findings regarding literary writers and their works, that has opened the door to my heart to understand what it means by drama or a play. And of course by attending this course, Teaching The Language Of Drama will surely make me comprehend better what it is all about. From the first lecture itself, it is clearly defined that drama is a form of literature acted out by performers. Performers work with the playwright, director, set and lighting designers to stage a show. Drama really m
